8 Things To Do In Fraser’s Hill!

Fraser’s Hill is a highland resort destination, locally known as Bukit Fraser. Fraser’s Hill is named after a Scottish prospector, Louis James Fraser back in the 1890s, who’ve opened up a tin mine but mysteriously vanished in 1915. In 1917, the bishop of Singapore rediscovered Fraser’s Hill while on a hunt for the man, providing suggestions for the area to be developed into a hill station which was brought to fruition by authorities. It is popular among the locals and foreigners for its greenery, forest walks, fresh air, exotic flora and fauna.

Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

Even though it is not as big as Cameron Highlands, Fraser’s Hill or The Little England of Malaysia is also another cool climate tourist spot in Malaysia if you are dying to escape the hot weather. Try visiting around November to January and experience the temperature drop to the lowest possible. If you are lucky you will get to see the mist as well. But the downfall of visiting during the year end is that you will get rain and unpredictable weather. Make sure you plan and pack accordingly to the climate especially if you are not used to the cold.

If you are planning for a fun visit with your family for a day or two, then I’ve listed 8 things to do in Fraser’s Hill that you can check out before the trip. Now are you ready to jump on the bandwagon? Let’s go.

1. Rest, relax and rejuvenate.

If you need a relax-and-do-nothing kind of holiday then this is the one for you. Even though the hotels are a little pricey, you will eventually get the rest you need. When you are surrounded by the green nature and fresh air, there’s nothing more you could have asked for. Take your time to rejuvenate before you head back to your busy life.

2. Hiking.

There are around 8 nature trails that you can try if you are into hiking; Mager, Bishop, Rompin, Maxwell, Hemmant, Kindersley, Abu Suradi and Pine Tree Hill. From the shortest to the longest trail with some made for the family while some for the serious hikers, you can enjoy them all if you have the time for it. Be prepared for some mud and leeches.

3. Horseback riding.

You can try horseback riding if this is something that you would like to do. Retired race horses kept in a stable that are used as leisure horses (guided by the keeper). Instead of retiring them fully, they restore these horses while trying not to strain them even more. With a view, you can go around the course for a small rate for a chill fun ride.

4. Archery.

If you are not into horseback riding, then you can try archery or even both actually. Located just next to the stable, you will find the archery spot under the slope after the entrance. At a reduced rate, you can have fun shooting some arrows with guidance. So fear not if you don’t know how, just ask them to guide you. They are super nice and good too.

5. Take a stroll around the Clock Tower.

Explore on foot when you are in Fraser’s Hill because that’s what they do here. A scenic walk along the main road and you can’t miss the iconic Mock Tudor designed Clock Tower. What is a vacation without a family picture in front of the tower? And you don’t want to miss the beautiful English-styled bungalows that are exactly from the past.

6. Boating/Feed fishes and ducks.

With a small lake that has been converted into a recreational park, you can try paddle boating for two person, if you’ve never been on one. It is pretty easy to maneuver too. It is quite safe as it comes with life jackets for safety purpose only even though there is no chance of you falling in the water. You can also feed the fishes and watch the ducks fight over it too.

7. Drop by the agricultural farm.

If you love plants, flowers, vegetables, seeds or even some free gardening workshops, then this is the place for you. It is next to the lake so you wouldn’t miss it. You can just walk around for free or purchase the fresh produce at a reasonable price. Be surprised for the new varieties of plants that you might have never seen or heard before.

8. Bird watching.

Fraser’s Hill hosts the International Bird Race every single year. They even have a gallery where you can visit to know more about the local and migratory birds. Home for over 250 species of birds, Fraser’s Hill are often visited by the migratory birds from Japan, China and Russia to escape the freezing winter and find some pasture.

What are the fun things that you’ve done in your recent family trip? Do let me know.
