5 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re Angry!

I just had the longest week ever. Getting stuck in a lockdown for months are definitely driving everyone crazy. Not just me but the people around me as well. We are getting angry, frustrated, upset and sometimes even lonely. So what do we do next? We fuss at our loved ones, friends and family. Just being cooped in is giving a lot of people anxiety and unhappiness even if we fail to talk about it. The negative emotions kept building up. You need to find a way to release your anger but how? We all have our own way of coping. It doesn’t matter how you get over your negative feelings and emotions, there are a few things that you shouldn’t be doing at all.

“Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding.” – Mahatma Gandhi

I hate when we get into a heated argument and things just escalate from bad to worse in no time. The whole day gets ruined and also our precious mood. It can be a little challenging to snap out of it as soon as you want. Unfortunately, feelings and emotions are not like a switch. You can’t just turn it on and off whenever you feel like. It can also be unsafe sometimes to do things that can put you or your loved ones in danger. For example, when you are driving you tend to make wrong judgements and to be on the road with that kind of negative thoughts are definitely dangerous to everyone.

You just need to know how to manage your anger so it doesn’t harm anyone in any way. Self care is important so does your emotions. So try to stay calm, relaxed and composed as much as you can until you find a way to get over your anger. However, there are 5 things that you shouldn’t do when you are angry. Allow me to tell you more about it.

1. Hide your anger.

Often we tend to suppress our feelings so we don’t get judged by our closed ones. But this is not the right thing to do. Hiding your anger can lead to heart problems or even fatal to a few. This is scary. If you let your anger build up for too long, it could get to a point where you feel like a ticking time bomb. You will explode. It could even lead to stress, where you are unable to function normally. Instead, talk to someone you can trust and tell them how you feel to make you feel better.

2. Sleep on it.

They say never go to bed angry and I can see why. It just won’t work. Overthinking can help your brain to blow things out of proportion and ruin your precious sleep. Rest is crucial to help you recover physically and mentally but when you are angry your brain decided to stay awake longer than usual. You will wake up more groggy with the preserved negative emotions the next day. I find myself more relaxed when I listen to music. The more melodious it gets, the better I feel.

3. Keep arguing back and forth.

When you are angry, you will keep going back and forth with the person you are arguing with. Meanwhile, we are going to say things that we might regret later on. Saying hurtful things to just make you feel better at the moment is not going to work. Eventually, it will drive you crazy too. The best way to handle this is by taking a break and then come back to it when you are much more calmer and relaxed. You will make better decisions when you are in the right mind.

4. Rant on social media.

Be careful when you post something on social media. People are watching everything that you are doing online even if you don’t know all about it. There is a published study that says that people who rants are most likely to be less happier than those who don’t. Ranting is not going to solve any of your problem but it is only going to amplify it even more. In the end of the day, know that not everyone wants the best for you. Some just wants to stick their nose so far into your business.

5. Resort to food.

So glad I am not the person who looks for food when I am upset or angry but unfortunately, it happens to some of you out there. You make unhealthy food choices. Comfort foods loaded with high content of sugar, carbohydrate and fat would be your first choice. It doesn’t only make you feel worse later on but you might also end up in indigestion, diarrhea or even constipation if you don’t find a way to stop this emotional eating disorder. Always try to distract yourself and find your happy place which is not food.
